Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Sister Rita Uqdah has been a leader and community organizer in every masjid community she set her feet in. Sister Rita was the Chairperson of CERWIS (Community to Enhance the Role of Women in Society) and she has been recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Somali Association of Arizona in 2004.

In 2008, she got married and relocated to New Jersey where she became a member of Masjidullah Plainfield and volunteered at their soup kitchen. She soon became the Chairperson of Masjidullah Eid Committee for several years and then earned the position of Chairperson for Hostess Committee for the New Jersey Council of Imams Conference in 2019. Sister Rita is excited to receive the new Interim Woman Advisor and guide her in this new position.
